Mexico City video project: “Baby, You’ve Changed”

What is this project?  Read this.

Well, I ran into a bit of a roadblock with the second video in my planned project.  Namely, the idea I had in mind just proved too difficult for me to pull off (it almost ended up in me getting thrown out of a mall) and I just couldn’t come up with a new approach, so in order to continue with the rest of the songs, which I still very much want to do, I just uploaded a video of the song over the classic picture of the kiss in Times Square (which for some reason half-disappears in the video, but whatever).  It’s a badass song, so at least it’s out there now, if the world comes looking for it.  So now I making my fun videos of the rest of the songs on this awesome album!

The first song you posted to me was kinda, “meh” to me. I dig this one though.

What was your original idea for this? And tell the story of almost getting kicked out of the mall!

The original idea was just to take a bunch of videos of couples together. Couples being happy, couples arguing, couples holding hands, etc. Except it ends up being somewhat difficult doing this because people see you filming them and they get weird, change what they were doing, etc.

And it turns out, the local mall has a policy against photography of any kind inside it. A security guard busted me for filming. He even made me delete what I had already taken so he could see it was deleted. Long story short, I just wasn’t in the right mood when it happened and I definitely argued more than I should, up to the point that I could tell it was about to get serious, and then I just walked away. That was when I made the decision to just post a video of whatever just to get past this song because I had already been having plenty of trouble getting satisfactory footage of couples.

I’ve often wanted to film people being people uninfluenced by a camera in their face but it is nearly impossible. They make spy glasses that double as still and video cameras that I have wanted to buy for a long time, but they are pricey. Still you’d have to stare directly at people to capture the footage and that can put people off too.
